Our Grant Partners’ Recent Wins

After launching our 2024 Impact Report in January, we wanted to give you even more of a reason to act with hope. Here we spotlight some recent successes from our grant partners in our five core Action Areas, who are the reason we work so hard to embed the planet as a beneficiary in music.

Uplift

ACtion AREA: just energy transition

Uplift wins court case, making Rosebank oilfield unlawful

Uplift and Greenpeace have won their hugely important case against Rosebank, the UK’s largest undeveloped oilfield. The Scottish court agreed that the approval of Rosebank’s development is unlawful because the massive emissions caused by burning its oil had not been taken into account. Although there’s still more fight to go, one thing has been made clear: the rules for new oil and gas projects are changing. As a result, Rosebank will need to pass multiple regulatory stages before being considered by the Energy Secretary.

ACTION AREA: Climate Justice

YCJF wins intergenerational leadership award

The Youth Climate Justice Fund has been awarded the Intergenerational Leadership category at the inaugural World Economic Forum’s GAEA Awards for System Change.

Global Greengrants Fund’s report on gender & climate funding

The Seeds of Change report sheds light on the global state of funding at the intersection of gender, climate and environment, including finding that 45% of human rights grants directed towards this intersection is from Global Greengrants!

ACTION AREA: greening music

The lowest carbon gig ever? Success from Act 1.5

Massive Attack’s Act 1.5 event in Bristol last year, supported by organizations including AGF, has reported record CO2 and environmental impact reductions, including 98% less power emissions than comparable shows. This important event provides a template that we hope festival organizers will take on in the future!

NO MUSIC ON A DEAD PLANET at the BRITs

The NMOADP campaign partnered once again with the BRIT Awards on March 1st this year, advocating for climate action at perhaps the biggest music awards in the UK. We were beyond proud to see this campaign shown to millions!

LIVE, MVT and Ecotricity launch the Live Events Energy Scheme (LEES)

LEES is a pioneering initiative designed to help live music venues access affordable, 100% renewable energy by uniting under a shared energy purchasing model, helping eliminate fossil fuels from music.

Overwhelming support for environmental event standards

A pilot for The Green Events Code of Practice, led by Vision for Sustainable Events and Julie’s Bicycle, helped local authorities integrate environmental assessments into event processes, with hugely positive outcomes.

ACTION AREA: legal & policy change

ClientEarth’s recent legal victories

Wins by ClientEarth, a team of lawyers and policy experts dedicated to protecting life, including stopping an oil & gas project in Italy, stopping the approval of a bee-harming pesticide in the UK, and forcing a Polish coal company to remove its ‘eco’ claims in a greenwashing case.

ACTION AREA: protect & restore nature

Cool Earth’s Basic Income Pilot helps people & forests

One year on, Cool Earth’s Basic Income pilot, which distributes money directly to families in the Amazon rainforest, has shown success: better access to food, more food-growing, and more involvement in reforestation and conservation.
